No more hiding behind my writing.

Having this blog is a way for me to share my experiences, interests and a bit of my life with people. I express myself well in writing, more so than verbally.  The reason for this is because I have always hidden behind writing. I was born with a speech impediment (stammer) that affected my childhood and teenage years and a small part of my adult life. I was bullied a lot because of it and therefore chose not to speak much. When I came to God and started to be given responsibilities in the youth group and other groups in the church, I started to speak much more and became more confident. I still had insecurity about my speech and I admit it has held me back and made me shy away from certain things, to save myself from embarrassment and shame.

About 5/6 weeks ago I was approached and asked whether I would like to be part of the video blog called “Yeah It’s complicated” and represent England. I would be like a reporter, interviewing people on the streets here in UK (the video blog is based in US), and help Vlog can attract and a wider audience.

I felt honoured to have been thought of and approached and I said yes. I honestly did question why I had been chosen amongst many other people who probably have experience doing these kinds of things, who are not camera shy and are very well spoken. However, I saw this is a new challenge and a way for me to finally stop hiding behind my writing because I have a voice. I watched the film, The King’s Speech around this time and it was a great confidence boost for me and I found the film very inspiring. 

So, I finally filmed my first video and I actually enjoyed it. I am not a professional nor do I aim to be. In fact was nervous filming it and did cringe when I watched the final cut but the more I do this, the more confident I will become and I am sure it is a way for me to help and inspire many people out there.

I am not going to criticize myself nor put myself down about this anymore, rather work on it and turn the “weakness” into a strength.
