Lack of respect for teachers is the norm nowadays. In fact lack of respect for authority in general is common. Young people think they can talk to who they want, how they want. However, this is not what I want to speak about today and will speak about this another time.

I want to speak about the two girls sat at their desk who butted in when the other girl (Michaela) was arguing with the teacher. Although some could argue they had the right to as she was disrupting the class, or that the teacher deserved it as she was rude back to the girl, but my focus is on the girl (Lindsey) who ends up getting into trouble for something that had nothing to do with her in the first place. And isn't this the same with most young women today? They find themselves in trouble at school, college or work just because they decided to 'support ‘a friend who had 'beef' with another girl, or felt the need to express their dislike towards a teacher or boss just to show off in front of others or to let off some steam.

I did both of these and it did not get me anywhere, well it got me into lot of trouble at school, with my parents, as well as losing a job. You see, there are times when we need to hold ourselves back and stay out of things that have nothing to do with us. Sometimes we need to keep our mouths shut and say nothing at all. Even when we feel like we are being provoked. We do not need to express our opinion towards everything that happens or what someone said.

When we lack self control in this way, we can look ugly. People can easily perceive us as some “empty headed loud mouth” and this can turn people off. In fact it makes us unattractive. Although it is hard at times it is necessary for us to preserve ourselves at home, school, work, church and wherever we are.

The only way I was able to control myself in heated situations was by the help of God, by asking Him to help me have self control. If you are struggling to control your emotions at home towards your parents, at school towards your teachers or at work, ask God to help you, seek His help. Be sincere with Him and He will help you.

The Bible says in Proverbs 16:32, “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city”.
