They are people who complain that there are not enough opportunities out there to develop themselves, get a job or enter the career they so desire to be in, which honestly is not true. If they bother to look online, at a local library, college or community centre, they would find that they are many courses, work based learning opportunities, taster days etc available. There are even part time or e – learning (online distance learning) courses for those who work or have other commitments such as being a full time mother / carer. If you are aged between 16 – 24 years old (and sometimes up to 26) or you are in receipt of government benefits, you have the privilege of doing some courses, free of charge.
Last year I did a six week cooking course, first aid course, part time maths course to improve my numeracy skills and gained a qualification in Advice and Guidance through doing a part time short course. These courses did not even cost me a penny but I gained so much from each of them. This year I have done several courses relevant to my line of work; advising clients and receiving and communicating information verbally which I must say has been beneficial for me and is developing my communication, analytical and advisory skills.
Friends, they are many opportunities out there but they will not come to us. We have to go out and find them and when we do grab them and take advantage of them, they may only pass by once.
