Have you ever been told, “You’re the best friend ever and nothing will break our friendship”, and then later this friendship ends over a silly misunderstanding? Or “we’re homies for life, you’ve got my back, I’ve got yours right”? To then be left in the lurch when trouble comes. How about, the friend who said she’d always be there for you no matter what but the moment a guy comes on the scene, she spending every minute of her day with him and does not even give you a text, call or send you an email anymore. It is like you no longer exist. Then they are those friends who can’t stand the sight of you anymore because you are doing well in life and progressing further than them and they even say nasty things about you behind your back to make you look bad to others.

Many of us have been through this and some of us still are going through this but the truth is they were never true friends in the first place. If they were, they would still be with us today. They were just with us out of convenience.

A true friend is someone who walks in when others walk out. She lifts you up and does not pull you down. A true friend rejoices in time of success and happiness and shares your pain in times of distress. She is always finding ways to help you and never judges or criticises you. Her love and care for you is genuine and she shows it by the way she is towards you. You may hardly see her due to distance or current circumstances but she is always thinking about you and even prays for you.

For us to know whether we are true friends, we just need to look at how we are towards those we consider friends. And for us to know if we have true friends, well just look how they are towards us.

We should love one another, not in word, but in deed, for actions speak louder than words.
